What Happens at a Private Bespoke Consultation?
A private bespoke consultation is not an appointment at which you are expected to arrive with every detail decided. Its purpose is to give the House enough time to understand you, the garment or wardrobe you are considering and the life in which it will be worn.
You may already know the cloth, colour and style you want. You may only know that an important occasion is approaching, that your working wardrobe no longer feels right or that you want something made properly for the first time. Both are useful places to begin.
At Signature Bespoke, the first conversation brings clarity before any commission is defined.
Choosing where to begin
Appointments can begin at the Liverpool House, at 31 Savile Row in London, through a private home or office visit, or through an international consultation arranged around location and travel.
The Liverpool House offers the complete environment, with cloth collections, garment examples and fitting considered together. London appointments provide a private way to begin for those based in or travelling to the capital. A home or office visit can be useful where schedule, discretion or the opportunity to consider an existing wardrobe makes a private setting more appropriate.
All four routes are available through the private consultation page, where the most suitable setting can be selected.
What to bring with you
You do not need specialist knowledge or a finished design brief.
If the commission is for a wedding, dinner, ceremony or another important occasion, the date, venue and expected dress are useful. For business tailoring, it helps to consider the rhythm of your week, the environments in which you work, how often you travel and which garments you already rely upon.
An existing jacket or suit can be particularly informative. It may show something you enjoy about proportion, comfort or ease, even if it is not the style you want to repeat. Photographs can help explain an occasion or direction, but they are a reference rather than a requirement.
The most useful thing to bring is an honest sense of what you need and what has not worked before.
The first conversation
The consultation begins with the individual rather than the cloth.
We consider purpose, personal style, posture, existing wardrobe and the way the garment needs to perform. A suit intended for regular travel asks different questions from one intended for a wedding. A first business commission may need to work across several settings, while an evening garment can have a more specific role.
This conversation allows the House to distinguish between what is attractive in isolation and what will genuinely serve the person wearing it.
Cloth, proportion and design
Once the purpose is understood, cloth and design become more precise decisions.
Weight, handle, drape, recovery and season are considered alongside colour and pattern. Proportion is discussed in relation to the individual rather than applied as a fixed House shape. Details such as lapels, pockets, buttons and lining follow the direction of the garment rather than competing with it.
You will be guided through those decisions. The aim is not to present an overwhelming number of options, but to make each choice useful.
Measurements and the beginning of the commission
Where a commission proceeds, measurements and observations are taken with attention to posture, balance and movement. This creates the starting point from which the garment can be developed.
The consultation does not complete the process. Fittings follow so that proportion, comfort and balance can be refined as the garment takes shape. The exact course of a commission depends on what is being made and the requirements around it.
What begins at the first appointment is an understanding that can continue beyond one garment. Future commissions can then respond to the wardrobe already in place rather than beginning again each time.
Consultation fees
A consultation fee secures the time and setting required for the appointment.
Liverpool House consultations are £100. Private appointments at 31 Savile Row are £350. Private home and office consultations are £250. Each of these fees is fully deductible from a bespoke commission that follows.
International consultations are arranged around location, schedule and travel requirements. The consultation fee is £1,000 and is non refundable and is not deducted from a subsequent commission.
Current appointment information and the correct route for each setting are maintained on the Begin Your Private Consultation page.
What happens after the appointment
If the direction is clear and you choose to proceed, the House confirms the commission and the next stage of the fitting process. Where more thought is useful, the conversation can remain considered. A private consultation should create confidence in the direction rather than pressure to make a hurried decision.
For those who would prefer guidance before selecting a location, the House can advise on the most appropriate appointment route.
